However, I recently worked with the company TEG with Karen Ryan.
This company manufactures different elements for the pharmaceutical industry. For my part, it was a question of creating a washing basket for a machine whose manufacturer no longer existed.
We have taken over the characteristics of the machine. We determined the optimum load for production and TEG took care of the design, the optimized design, the different nozzles to have optimum efficiency, the FAT.
TEG has done a remarkable job, within the announced deadlines and within the announced envelope.”

We have updated our response with measures to mitigate against possible impacts to our services and our dedicated staff as a direct response to the new state restrictions that came into operation:

• Staff are given the option to work from home where possible.
• Daily digital temperature monitoring with face recognition.
• Face masks to be worn by all staff when outside their designated areas.
• Staggered shifts to reduce traffic in communal areas.
• Twice daily clean down of all office spaces. Spot checks carried out & all cleaning is recorded,
• Utilization of hand sanitizer and Extra cleaning staff.
• One-way system in operation in hallways,
• New office space has been created to allow for 2 metre distancing as much as possible,
• Maximum occupancy signs are outside all offices
• Product & Packaging Wipe Down – Prior to Site Delivery.
• Strict Visitor Access with notice to all sales representatives that no visits are permitted.
• Safe distancing in the canteen and offices with stricter instructions ensuring that no unnecessary visits to offices or quality rooms should take place.
• Staff returning from overseas from this weekend refrain from returning to our facility for the new term of 2 weeks after landing in Ireland.
• Staff with colds or flu-like symptoms leave immediately, self-isolate and call their doctor.

Our supply chain is back to normal availability and lead-times.

We are doing FAT by means of video, conference calls or shared files for international customers and in person FATs for local customers where possible.

Our focus is to support you in as normal a manner as possible while still adhering to best practice directives.

TEG interviewed newly qualified toolmaker, Seamus Curran about his apprenticeship journey.

Seamus states “I’ve gained invaluable experience through on the job training with TEG, that I wouldn’t have gotten if I had of went straight to college full time for 4 years”.

When asked why he chose the apprenticeship route Seamus replied:
“I went to college as an apprentice and as a student I would pick the apprenticeship over being a full time student, as I didn’t have to deal with the financial stress of paying for accommodation or food, the wage I received was higher than any college grant available.”

Recognising the need of skilled staff availability to support the business, TEG adopts the apprenticeship system of training.

Each year the company recruits 5 new apprentices for an intensive 4 year training program in the craft of Toolmaking.

What is a toolmaker?

A toolmaker is a skilled worker who produces and maintains precision tools used in the production of metal, plastic and other materials of all shapes and sizes. The work of a toolmaker involves interpreting drawings and technical data to machine and assemble with great accuracy jigs, fixtures, moulding tools, dies and punches.

Care and attention to detail and high precision are the hallmark of Toolmaking. A toolmaker operates a range of specialist engineering machines such as lathes, milling machines, Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines, grinding, milling and boring machines.

The Consortium consists of Airbus, TEG, IMR and Robotnik. TEG for its EASA approved aviation design and production skills and its use of 3D scanning technologies. IMR for its robotics expertise. Airbus provides first-class expertise in aircraft manufacturing and assembly.  Robotnik has extensive experience in the development of robots for performing autonomous tasks

The major goal of the MAAS project is to develop an efficient automated solution for the manufacturing of aircraft sub-assemblies.

The project aims to evaluate the use of collaborative robots and related automated activities within manufacturing, assembly and inspection operations. A mobile robotics solution will be designed, developed and integrated into a prototype assembly line.

The final goal is to demonstrate a production cell which will integrate

• Efficient manufacturing processes intended for parts assembly.
• Visual inspection of individual parts.
• Robot-assisted assembly and quality assurance of the final sub-assembly by 3D scanning techniques.
